On April 15, 2014, author Jenny Han released her novel, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The book was a huge success and maintained a spot on the New York Times Bestseller list for 40 weeks in the young adult fiction category. By 2017, Han had added two more books to the series. Then, in 2018, her book was brought to life on Netflix.

Merely two months after the book was published, Overbrook Entertainment received film rights to Han’s novel. Production officially began on July 5, 2017 and ended on August 4, 2017. Netflix then gained distributions rights in March 2018 and released the movie on August 17, 2018.

Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series follows 16 year old Laura Jean Song Covey’s high school experience as she discovers her first romance. The series is actually somewhat based on Han’s teenage experience, and how she used to write love letters to her crushes. So, it’s no surprise that many viewers were able to connect to the film. Freshman Erin Otten, who is a fan of the film said that watching it helped her realize,”You can find love in the weirdest places.”

Overall, the film was a huge success. Fans were hooked, and naturally, they demanded a sequel, knowing that there could be at least two more films made. In December 2018, actress Lana Condor, who played the role of Laura Jean, made the official statement for a sequel film. Production began March 2019, and the next installment in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series is anticipated to be released sometime in 2020. “I’m so excited about it and can’t wait to watch it with my mom. The first one was great and I hope they do the book justice when they make it into a movie.” exclaims Sophomore Kayla Finnley.

Not much information about the film has been released yet. All fans know is that it will adapt the story line of Han’s P.S. I Still Love You. However, fans do know that the sequel will feature two new cast members, Ross Butler and Jordan Fisher. It’s still unclear as to who Butler will be portraying, but it was confirmed that Fisher will be playing the role of John Ambrose, a past love interest of Laura Jean.

So, to all those fans of To All the Boys I’ve loved Before, your wish has come true! There will indeed be a sequel, and, perhaps, a third film as well. For updates and the occasional sneak peek of the newest film, fans can follow the official Instagram account of the film: @toalltheboysnetflix.
