To start off the new year at Grafton High School, we have a new resource officer, named Deputy Estes.

“I am in charge of the safety and security of the staff, students, and the building,” Estes said.

On a daily basis, he handles any kind of calls for service, fights in the building, or arguments.  He checks to make sure all the doors are locked at all times, and that all teachers are using the active shooter strips to keep everyone in the building as safe as possible.

“I love to help people; that’s the reason I became a cop,” he said.  Before Deputy Estes was a cop, he was in the Marine Corps for 10 years.

Deputy Estes and his family had to make a tough decision in the past year. “My wife and I decided to purchase a house that was bigger for my family and our needs,” Estes said.

“My favorite part of my job is building relationships with the students here,” he said.  He feels it will make his job more difficult if the students don’t feel comfortable to talk to him.  The students at Grafton really seem to enjoy Deputy Estes here, and we hope we all have a good year with the new deputy.
